Pune, 18 December 2025: Ahead of the New Year celebrations, Pune Police launched a major crackdown on drug trafficking, uncovering a racket operating across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mumbai, and Goa. The operation led to the seizure of narcotics worth ₹3.5 crore, including hydroponic cannabis, mephedrone, charas, and LSD, and the arrest of five accused.
The case came to light after police received specific information that a young man was involved in selling narcotics. Acting on the tip-off, a police team laid a trap in the Khadki area and detained the suspect. During interrogation, he revealed that his associates had rented a flat in the Pimpri area, where hydroponic cannabis was being cultivated indoors.
Following this disclosure, police raided the rented apartment in Pimpri under the guidance of senior officers. During the search, officers seized hydroponic cannabis along with equipment used for indoor cultivation. Further questioning of the arrested men exposed a wider drug distribution network extending beyond Pune.
Based on the leads obtained, police teams conducted coordinated raids in Mumbai and Goa. Two more accused were detained from Mumbai, while follow-up action was carried out in Goa. In total, five persons were arrested in connection with the case.
Police also froze ₹7.8 lakh found in the bank accounts of the accused, suspecting the money to be proceeds of drug trafficking. All accused have been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
Senior police officials said the operation was carried out as part of a strict directive to take firm action against habitual drug peddlers. Investigators are now probing whether the racket has links to an international narcotics network.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have indicated that more arrests cannot be ruled out as the probe progresses.
