Pune, 30th May 2026: Residents of Ektanagari on Sinhagad Road confronted Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram over delays in flood protection work near the Mutha River. Citizens expressed anger as the monsoon season approaches and no concrete preventive measures have been completed in the area.
For the past several years, floodwaters from the Mutha River have entered several residential buildings in Ektanagari, causing major losses to residents. Although senior political leaders and ministers had previously visited the area and assured safety measures, residents say no effective action has been taken so far.
In January, the PMC had approved urgent construction of a boundary wall along the river to prevent floodwater from entering the locality. The project was expected to be completed by May. However, despite the work order being issued, the contractor had not started the work.
During a site visit, Commissioner Ram inspected the area and questioned officials from the drainage department as well as the contractor over the delay.
He directed that the project must be completed within the next two months and warned that strict action would be taken if further delays occur. He also instructed officials to submit daily progress reports every evening.
At the same time, local residents raised complaints about sewage water flowing back into their homes during flooding. Upset over the civic administration’s inaction, residents surrounded the commissioner and demanded immediate solutions to the recurring issue.
“The tender for the boundary wall project had already been approved, but work had not started on the ground. Officials have now been directed to complete the work within two months, and residents’ concerns will be addressed,” said Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram.
