Pune: Fire Brigade Rescues Two Youths After They Fall 30 Feet Into Drain Near Khadimachine Chowk

Late-night motorcycle accident near Katraj-Mantarwadi Road; both injured youths pulled out alive in a challenging rescue operation

Pune, 31st July 2026: Two youths were rescued alive after falling around 30 feet into a deep drainage canal following a motorcycle accident near Shriram Chowk in the Khadimachine Chowk area on Katraj-Mantarwadi Road in late Wednesday night.

The rescue operation was successfully carried out by the Fire Brigade despite darkness and flowing water inside the drain.

The fire brigade received information about the incident around 12:30 am on Wednesday night. A rescue team from the Kondhwa Budruk Fire Station immediately rushed to the spot and found the two injured youths trapped in the fast-flowing drain.

Both victims, believed to be between 20 and 30 years of age, had suffered serious head and facial injuries after the fall.

Understanding the seriousness of the situation, Fireman Prakash Shelar descended nearly 30 feet into the drain using a safety belt. With support from fellow firefighters, he secured one of the injured youths with safety equipment and brought him to the surface before he was shifted to an ambulance.

The second victim was found unconscious inside the drain. Firefighters revived him and safely pulled him out before sending him to the hospital.

The injured have been identified as Saurabh Lahu Jadhav (25), a resident of Ahilyanagar, and Soham Balbhim Nirane (20), a resident of Khed. Both are undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital.

The rescue operation was carried out under the guidance of Station Officer Sameer Sheikh. The team included driver Sameer Tadvi, firemen Prakash Shelar, Vishal Yadav and Vishwajit Wagh, along with helpers Saurabh Awale and Pankaj Owal.

The timely action and coordinated efforts of the fire brigade ensured that both injured youths were rescued safely and received immediate medical attention, preventing a possible tragedy.
