Pune, 24 February 2026: In a major technological step to tackle Pune’s growing traffic congestion, the Pune City Traffic Police has launched a new traffic management software called ‘Trafficure’. The system has been developed through a joint collaboration between the Pune City Traffic Department, Google India and Lepton India.

With this initiative, Pune has become the first city in the country to implement an online traffic management system in partnership with Google India.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said that the state government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google India last year, after which the Trafficure application was developed. He said that, the app uses Google Maps to identify real-time traffic congestion, slow-moving traffic and road-related issues across the city. It provides quick and real-time updates to the police.

The software provides live updates on traffic jams and slow-moving vehicles at major junctions as well as internal roads. One of its key features is an independent alert system that immediately notifies traffic personnel when congestion begins to build up.

This enables officers to reach the exact location quickly and clear bottlenecks before the situation worsens. The system also tracks the average vehicle speed across the city and records specific causes of traffic disruptions.

Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil said the traffic police have divided Pune into 550 zones based on road networks and traffic flow patterns. Over the last two months of using the application, we have observed that the average vehicular speed has increased to 26.8 kmph from 20 kmph.

Patil added that the platform helps the department study road conditions and take corrective measures. According to the data collected so far, recurring traffic congestion has been identified in areas such as Hadapsar, Kalepadal, Navale Bridge and the Katraj-Kondhwa Road stretch. The police are now focusing on these locations to improve traffic movement.
