Pune, 2nd October 2026: The Pune Crime Branch and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) jointly raided an illegal flavoured tobacco and zarda manufacturing unit in Uruli Devachi, Fursungi, and seized materials worth ₹32 lakh. Two men from Madhya Pradesh were arrested in connection with the case.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sushilsingh Vishwanath Tomar (26) and Umeshsingh Ramdin Tomar (23), both natives of Morena district in Madhya Pradesh. A case has been registered at Fursungi Police Station.
The operation followed a tip-off received by Crime Branch Unit 5 personnel Nasir Deshmukh and Sudhir Sonawane about an illegal flavoured tobacco manufacturing unit operating in the Uruli Devachi area.
Acting on the information, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Sandipan Pawar, along with Assistant Inspector Vijay Patil, Sub-Inspector Abhijit Pawar and FDA officials Narayan Sarkate and Pooja Bagade, raided a house in Adarsh Nagar, Uruli Devachi. The team found the two accused manufacturing prohibited flavoured tobacco at the premises.
During the raid, officials seized 59 boxes of flavoured tobacco, 1,080 cans of cheese, a pouch-packing machine, rose water, boxes of menthol and cans of glycerol. The total value of the seized materials was estimated at ₹32 lakh.
The operation was carried out under the directions of Additional Commissioner of Police Tejaswi Satpute, Deputy Commissioner of Police Gauhar Hasan and Assistant Commissioner Rajendra Mulik. Further investigation is being conducted by Fursungi Police.
