Pune, 22nd September 2026: Heavy rain lashed several parts of north Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad early morning, bringing a sudden change in weather after several days of relatively dry conditions.
IITM radar observations indicated a rain spell around 6 am across areas including Pashan, Baner, Susgaon, Sus Road, Khadki, Wakad, Chandani Chowk and Bavdhan.
The early-morning showers brought some relief from the recent rise in temperatures and humidity. Pune had experienced a long pause in rainfall over the past few days, with residents reporting increased heat during the daytime.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to very light rainfall in Pune during the next two to three days. Weather conditions are also expected to remain conducive for thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Maharashtra during the week.
According to the weather outlook, a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to move towards Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Its associated effects could influence rainfall activity across Maharashtra between September 22 and 28.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible in selected districts during this period:
September 22: Raigad, Satara and Solapur
September 23: Sindhudurg, Solapur, Dharashiv, Latur, Nanded and Chandrapur
September 24–28: Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Gondia and Gadchiroli
The system is not expected to have a significant impact over Khandesh, north Maharashtra and north Vidarbha. Its influence is expected to weaken from around September 29.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has started its withdrawal from parts of northwest India. The monsoon has now advanced into Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana as part of its retreat.
For Pune, the withdrawal of the monsoon does not mean an immediate end to rainfall. Local weather systems and moisture associated with the low-pressure area can continue to trigger showers and thunderstorms over parts of Maharashtra in the coming days.
