Pune: A Gaur (Indian bison) strayed into Pune’s Bavdhan area on Tuesday morning. The forest department rescue team arrived at the spot equipped nets and tranquilisers to control and capture the endangered creature.

Prima facie, the animal is suspected to have ventured into the Bavdhan area from the Mulshi forest located nearby. The forest officials have urged locals not to visit the site.

Few days back, high drama resulted in Kothrud area after the subsequent capture of Indian Bison. However, the gaur died, possibly due to exhaustion, caused, among other things, by the unruly crowd of people in the area.

Termed as 'vulnerable', the Indian bison is listed on the Red List of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Gaur, which is known to venture long distances in the wild, is usually not seen in the forests around the city and may have strayed into Bavdhan area from the jungles nearby.
