Pune IT Professional Suicide Case: Boyfriend Arrested for Alleged Mental Harassment

23-Year-Old Woman Ended Life by Jumping Into Mula-Mutha River; Police Register Abetment to Suicide Case

Pune, 26th May 2026: A 23-year-old woman working in the IT sector allegedly died by suicide following prolonged mental harassment by her boyfriend in Kharadi. Police have arrested the accused after the victim’s family lodged a complaint.

According to police, Nikita, who was staying at Siddhivinayak PG accommodation in Kharadi, died by suicide on May 6 by jumping into the Mula-Mutha river from Mundhwa bridge. Initially, the incident was registered as an accidental death case.

However, during the investigation, police found that Nikita was in a relationship with Chaitanya Sanjay Kanade, a resident of Wadgaon Sheri and reportedly her relative.

Her brother later approached police alleging that Chaitanya had been mentally harassing her for some time following disputes in their relationship.

The complaint further stated that Nikita was under severe emotional stress due to the continuous harassment and eventually took the extreme step.

Based on the complaint, Kharadi Police registered a case against Chaitanya Kanade for abetment to suicide and arrested him. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.

The incident has created concern in Pune’s IT community, while police continue to examine all aspects related to the case.
