Pune: A gangster imprisoned in the Yerawada jail in Pune allegedly sent two suspects to kill Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Corporator Baburao Chandere. The motive behind the attempted crime is unconfirmed as the mastermind behind the conspiracy is yet to be ascertained.

Baburao Dattoba Chandere (60), residing in Baner, has filed the complaint in this case. As per his complaint, the incident took place on December 22 night and December 23.

The 60-year-old is a Corporator from the Balewadi-Pashan area of the Pune Municipal Corporation. His son Sameer received a call from one Umesh alias Pappu Barkade, who also told him in person that some unidentified persons have arrived in Baner to kill his father Baburao Chandere.

When Chandere's wife was closing the gate of their house she spotted a white colour car in which a driver and another person at rear side were sitting. When she questioned them, the suspects did not answer and fled from the spot with the car.

Chatuhshrungi police have inspected CCTV camera footage in the area. Senior police officials visited the spot after the case was lodged. Police and political circles are rife with speculations about the mastermind behind this 'supari' killing attempt on Chandere.

A case has been lodged at Chatuhshrungi police station against gangster Anil Yashwante and his accomplices have been booked under sections 120(b) (criminal conspiracy), 115 (Abetment of offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life if offence not committed), 506(2) (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
