Pune: Know how you can cross Swargate junction using two pedestrian subways

The work will be completed in a year's time and pedestrians can safely cross the junction, which otherwise sees 10 thousand vehicles crossing per hour.

Pune: The MahaMetro has recently started work on the two pedestrian subways at the Jedhe chowk junction near the multimodal hub and Swargate Metro Station. The work will be completed in a year's time and pedestrians can safely cross the junction which sees 10 thousand vehicles crossing per hour and 30 to 40 thousand pedestrians crossing the junction in peak hours.

For pedestrians coming from Sarasbaug, Tilak Road and Shivaji Road

  • Ganesh Kala Krida Manch to Multimodal Transport Hub

  • Cost Rs 1.5 crore

  • Length of 190 metres, width of 4.5 metre and height of 3 metre

For pedestrians coming from Shankarsheth Road and ST stand

  • Swargate ST Stand Reservation Counter to Multimodal Transport Hub

  • Cost Rs 2.5 crore

  • Length of 125 metres, width 7.5 metre and height of 4.5 metre

Benefits to pedestrians

  • Escalators, LED lights, fans, air conditioning and fire systems will be installed

  • Pedestrians can directly walk up to PMP and ST stand

  • Pedestrians can directly reach Sarasbaug, Shankarsheth road without having to face the traffic

Status of work

  • The underground metro station work at Swargate has begun which is 28 metres below ground level

  • Digging work has begun at Swargate ST stand and Ganesh Kala Krida Manch side

  • Pedestrian subways will be completed in a year

  • Subway work started one and half month before
