Pune: After nearly a week of intense rainfall across Pune city, the Western Ghats and the Konkan region, rain activity has eased considerably over the past two to three days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said there is no forecast of heavy rainfall in these regions over the next five to six days.
Just days ago, several locations along the Ghat section recorded 500–600 mm of rainfall. However, rainfall over the past 24 hours has dropped sharply, with many areas reporting little to no precipitation, indicating a temporary pause in the spell of heavy rain.
According to the IMD, the weakening of the prevailing weather systems has led to the reduction in rainfall intensity. As a result, the state is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall over the coming days, with no heavy rainfall warning currently in place.
In Pune district's Ghat areas, rainfall remained minimal during the 24-hour period from 8 am Friday to 8 am Saturday. Shirgaon recorded 10 mm, Bhira 12 mm, Davdi 10 mm, Pofali 12 mm, and Tamhini 12 mm of rainfall. This follows four to five consecutive days of extremely heavy rainfall across several parts of the Western Ghats.
While the immediate threat of widespread heavy rainfall has subsided, the southwest monsoon remains active over Maharashtra. The IMD said light to moderate showers are likely across several parts of the state in the coming days, with weather conditions continuing to be monitored for any fresh developments.
