Pune, 12 December 2025: The long-pending dispute over the redevelopment of old housing societies in Lokmanyanagar continues to remain unresolved, leading to rising frustration among residents.
Alleging that the state government has ignored their concerns, the Lokmanyanagar Action Committee organised a protest at Datta Mandir Chowk yesterday. Citizens participated in large numbers, banging plates, ringing bells, and carrying black flags while dressed in black to mark their anger.
For several months, redevelopment in the area has been stuck due to disagreements over whether the societies should be redeveloped collectively under an integrated plan or allowed to redevelop independently. With no clarity or progress, residents say the uncertainty has severely affected their lives and security.
During the protest, people from all age groups, women, senior citizens, youth and students, voiced strong slogans against the administration. They accused the authorities of pushing long-term residents into insecurity under the guise of redevelopment and denying them their rightful housing.
The Action Committee has demanded that the government immediately begin discussions and announce a clear, transparent plan for redevelopment. They warned that if officials continue to delay, the agitation will be intensified.
Advocate Ganesh Satpute said the fight will continue until citizens get justice. He stated plainly that “the rights of Lokmanyanagar residents cannot be compromised in the name of redevelopment” and urged the government to respond with a firm and fair policy.
