The pipeline burst on Fergusson Road led to a large volume of water flowing onto the road, triggering concern among residents who questioned the wastage during a period of severe water scarcity. The incident also affected water supply in parts of Ghole Road and Apte Road.

Similar leakages were reported on Friday at Ladali Chowk in Dhayari and in the Kondhwa, where damaged water pipelines resulted in significant water loss. Residents have urged authorities to act swiftly to prevent further wastage and repair the damaged infrastructure.

The situation has become more worrying as reservoir levels continue to decline. At this time last year, rainfall had already begun in the Khadakwasla dam catchment area and water storage had reached around 7 TMC.

This year, however, only about 4 TMC of water remains in the reservoir system, while there is still no clear indication of substantial rainfall in the coming days.

With the monsoon yet to gain momentum and water reserves shrinking, concerns are growing over Pune's water security. Citizens and experts alike have stressed the need for strict conservation measures and quick action to prevent avoidable water losses across the city.
