Pune: From past few days, the graph of COVID-19 has flattened its curve in Pune district. Though the number of COVID-19 cases gone down in the region, the Pune administration on Wednesday warned that the second wave of the infection may mark its impact in December, January.

The district administration on Wednesday while addressing the media persons pointed on the need to be alert and aware of the COVID-19 situation.

Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao addressing the media said, “The central government along with health experts have cautioned that the winter months such as December, January, as well as opening up of most activities after lockdown restrictions, would take to another wave in coming months.”

“There is a decrease in the number of fresh coronavirus cases in the district. Also, the availability of ventilators and bed is satisfactory too,” he added. He went on, “Preparations are being made by the administration to avoid the possible situation. “People should stay alert and follow precautionary measures to restrict the further spread.”

Rao also stated that there was a sure surge in COVID-19 post Ganesh festival as people due to further relaxations on the lockdown were seen outside their homes. The two to three weeks post the festival saw an increase in cases.”

The district administration has warned Punekars to firmly follow norms of COVID-19 during upcoming Navratri and Diwali.
