Pune Metro to build 508-metre foot-over-bridge at Chandni Chowk.
Vanaz–Chandni Chowk extension includes Kothrud Depot and Chandni Chowk stations.
Project aims to ease congestion and improve pedestrian access.
Pune, 24 October 2025: Pune Metro has announced plans to construct a 508-metre-long foot-over-bridge at the Chandni Chowk junction on the Bengaluru–Mumbai national highway bypass. The bridge is part of the upcoming Vanaz–Chandni Chowk Metro extension, which will also feature a depot at Kothrud and a station at Chandni Chowk.
The Chandni Chowk junction is a key transit point for long-distance buses connecting Bengaluru, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, and Mumbai, as well as local commuters traveling to Pune city and nearby industrial areas like Hinjewadi, Chakan, and Pirangut. The Foot Over Bridge is designed to provide safe and seamless access between the highway bus stops and the Metro station.
“The foot-over-bridge will help reduce walking time and improve safety for commuters navigating this busy junction,” a Pune Metro official said.
The Vanaz–Chandni Chowk extension will cover 1,123 metres and include two stations: Kothrud Depot and Chandni Chowk. While the project is still in the planning stage, detailed designs and approvals are underway. Once completed, the extension and the Foot Over Bridge are expected to strengthen Pune’s west-entry connectivity and ease pedestrian congestion along the national highway corridor.
