Pune, 26th September 2026: The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is expected to clear five more stations on the Shivajinagar to Maan-Hinjewadi Metro Line 3 next week, paving the way for metro services at 17 of the corridor’s 23 stations.
However, the launch could face a delay due to the Model Code of Conduct for the graduate and teachers’ constituency elections. PMRDA Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari said the authority will seek guidance from the district administration and take a decision according to the Election Commission’s directions.
The five stations towards Shivajinagar have already undergone safety inspections, and PMRDA is awaiting the final CMRS safety report. The CMRS had earlier granted clearance on July 23 for 12 stations between Maan and R.K. Laxman Museum at Balewadi.
With clearance for the additional five stations, services could begin across 17 stations of the 23-station corridor.
A key development on the corridor is the completion of a 150-metre pedestrian bridge at the District Court (Civil Court) station.
The bridge will enable direct integration between PMRDA’s Metro Line 3 and MahaMetro’s network, allowing passengers to change routes at Civil Court and travel towards Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kothrud and Ramwadi.
Dr Chaudhari inspected the ongoing work on the Metro Line 3 corridor and reviewed the progress of the project.
The inauguration date for Metro Line 3 has not yet been received from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Dr Chaudhari said, “We will seek guidance from the district administration regarding the Model Code of Conduct and take the final decision according to the Election Commission’s directions.”
The project is now in its final stage, with the pending CMRS clearance and election-related permissions among the key factors that will determine the start of passenger services.
