Pune, 22 December 2025: Pune Metro has officially renamed three of its stations, responding to long-standing demands from public representatives and social organisations. The metro administration said the process of replacing station name boards will be completed in the coming days.
Mandai Metro Station has been renamed Mahatma Phule Mandai Metro Station, acknowledging the historical and cultural significance of the area. Several organisations had pressed for this change, arguing that the earlier name did not fully reflect the identity of the locality.
The Mali Mahasangh had submitted a formal memorandum to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) and had also warned of protests if the demand was ignored. Following the final approval, members of the organisation celebrated the decision, calling it a victory for public sentiment.
Two other stations on the Vanaz–Ramwadi corridor have also been renamed. Nal Stop Metro Station is now known as SNDT, as it is located near SNDT Women’s University, while Ideal Colony Metro Station has been renamed Paud Phata, a name widely used by local residents.
MahaMetro confirmed that all three name changes have received approval from the Central Government.
Meanwhile, Pune is preparing to introduce the ‘One Pune Card’, which will allow commuters to travel on Pune Metro Line 1, the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro, and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses using a single card.
Currently, passengers need separate tickets for Metro and bus services. Once implemented, the new card is expected to make daily travel smoother and more convenient for Pune residents.
