Pune: More COVID-19 recoveries than new cases for fourth straight day

Pune: The daily COVID-19 recoveries (4,851) exceeded new cases (4,539) for the fourth straight day on Wednesday in the Pune city.

Talking about the district, as many as 9,186 patients were recovered in last 24 hours while 9,841 new cases were registered in the same duration. Of the total recoveries in the district, Pune city (Pune Municipal Corporation) continued to report more recoveries (4,851) as against new cases (4,539) in the last 24 hours. The region’s total recoveries now stand above 6,49,565, while its positive caseload has increased above 7.63 lakh.

As many as 43,190 samples were checked in the region on Thursday, taking total testing above 37.33 lakh, said a report by the district health officer.

According to the daily health bulletin, 115 patients died in Pune district in span of 24 hours, taking its total to 11,882. The count of active patients in the region stayed near 1 lakh on Thursday, including 73,802 patients in home isolation.

HIGHEST COVID-19 CFR IN PUNE

As Maharashtra reported 67,013 new cases on Thursday, taking the tally to over 40 lakhs, five districts have developed as areas of concern with respect to the Case Fatality Ratio (CFR; the percentage of deaths per 100 cases).

In the period from April 15 to April 21, as Maharashtra reported its highest seven-day average in both cases as well as fatalities, the CFR of five districts stood the most concern. Of them, Ahmednagar recorded the highest at 1.4 per cent, followed by Nagpur (0.95 per cent), Mumbai (0.64 per cent), Nashik (0.62 per cent) and Pune (0.33 per cent).

The Test Positivity Rate (TPR), however, was the highest in Nagpur with 34 per cent, while Pune district reported 26.64 per cent and Mumbai’s stood at 17.21 per cent in the same period.

Meanwhile, Pune one of the worst hit cities in the country has enforced weekend lockdown starting this month to restrict the further spread of COVID-19.
