He expressed, "COVID-19 has created a havoc. Pune should be saved. Despite having 20 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in Pune, they are of no use due to lack of coordination. So now the centralised system needs to be adopted by the aid of the Central government. I demand that the union government that they send a task force to coordinate in Pune to reduce the outbreak.”

In the Parliament session on Monday, Bapat said, "The situation in Pune is deteriorating day by day. Pune is number one in the country in the field of information technology (IT), industry, education, etc. However, now Pune has also reached number one in the number of coronavirus patients. We do not want this number one. Every day 1,500 new patients are being tested positive while 60-70 people losing their lives, which has created an atmosphere of fear among the citizens of Pune. Ventilators are not available in this city, oxygen beds are not available in hospitals, there is scarcity of ambulances. This situation needs to change urgently. "
