Pune, 13th June 2026: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to introduce stricter entry regulations for visitors following the recent bomb threat email sent to the Mayor’s Office. The move comes as civic authorities review security arrangements and seek to strengthen access control at the PMC headquarters.
The issue was discussed during a review of security measures conducted by the Standing Committee. Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the administration has been directed to prepare a comprehensive visitor management policy similar to the system followed at Mantralaya. A draft of the policy is expected to be submitted within the next 10 days.
During the security review, several shortcomings were identified, including irregularities related to identity cards of security personnel. It was found that some guards did not possess authorised identification cards, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the existing security system.
At present, bags of visitors entering the civic building are checked at entry points. Under the proposed rules, visitors will also have to provide details about the purpose of their visit, the department they wish to access, and the official they intend to meet. Only after verification will they be issued a visitor pass.
The proposed framework also includes fixed timings for meetings between citizens and officials to streamline visitor movement and reduce unnecessary crowding inside the building.
Bhimale said the new policy is intended to make PMC’s security system more robust and ensure better monitoring of visitors entering the premises.
