Pune, 19th September 2026: Two killed and several others were injured after a freight container reportedly suffered a brake failure and crashed into multiple vehicles near Navale Bridge on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass early Saturday morning.
The accident took place on Bhumkar Bridge at around 12.30 am. According to police, the container was travelling from Satara towards Mumbai when its brakes reportedly failed, causing the driver to lose control of the heavy vehicle.
The speeding container first collided with a truck ahead of it and then hit or scraped against other vehicles on the road. The impact was severe, causing extensive damage to the container and the truck.
Two people travelling inside the container died at the spot. Their identities have not yet been confirmed. Several other people sustained injuries in the accident.
After receiving information about the crash, local residents, police personnel and ambulance teams reached the site. Rescue teams worked to remove the bodies of the two deceased persons trapped inside the container.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, including the reported brake failure.
The accident led to traffic congestion on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway. The damaged vehicles and rescue operations affected the movement of traffic near the Bhumkar Bridge and Navale Bridge area.
