Officials said the Mumbai–Bengaluru Highway section near Navale Bridge has seen a rise in serious accidents in recent months. To address this, the traffic police, along with Save Life Foundation, volunteers, and road-safety experts, conducted a study to identify corrective measures.

Following a recent major accident, the speed limit had temporarily been reduced to 30 kmph. However, experts observed that such a low limit posed risks for heavy vehicles, particularly in terms of braking. Based on these findings, the limit has now been set at 40 kmph for all types of vehicles.

The Traffic Department has urged motorists to monitor their speedometers and follow highway signboards. Enforcement will be carried out through CCTV surveillance and speed guns, and violators will face penalties.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav said the updated limit is designed to balance safety with practical driving conditions on the busy bypass road.
