Pune, 4th July 2025: Eight Bangladeshi women living illegally in the red-light area of Budhwar Peth were arrested by the Faraskhana Police. Preliminary investigation revealed that the women had entered India without valid documents and were voluntarily involved in sex work in Pune.
The arrested women have been identified as Anjura Begum Kamrul Chowdhury (40), Khadija Begum Mahabur Sheikh (27), Parol Begum Mithu Sheikh (38), Tanjila Begum Alamgir Kazi (40), Rupali Begum Akbar Sheikh (38), Mansura Rafiq Hawaldar Akhtar (19), Seema Alamgir Sheikh (45), and Rinakhatun Fozor Gazi (32).
This action was taken following orders from Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar to initiate a crackdown against Bangladeshi infiltrators. Acting on specific information received by Senior Police Inspector Prashant Bhasme of Faraskhana Police Station, a joint team comprising the local investigation squad and the Anti-Terrorist Cell conducted the operation.
On the night of July 2, two separate police teams carried out simultaneous raids at Asha Building and Dhamdhere Galli in Budhwar Peth. During interrogation, the women confessed to having illegally crossed the border from Bangladesh into India. After arriving in Pune, they falsely claimed to be residents of West Bengal and began working in the red-light district.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Rajesh Bansode, Deputy Commissioner Krishikesh Rawale, and Assistant Commissioner Anuja Deshmane, with the leadership of Senior Police Inspector Prashant Bhasme and Crime Inspector Ajit Jadhav.
