Pune, 10th June 2025: Due to rain, sewer water is accumulating in the parking lot of the Mathwad building and Omkar Shree Apartment located in the Gananjay Society area of Kothrud. Citizens are suffering from the foul smell coming from it and there is a demand for immediate action.
Residents here said that when it rains, the residents of the Mathwad building cannot come down from their houses and cannot even go upstairs. The water from the chamber here accumulates in the parking lot and the stench of this contaminated water makes it difficult to stay in the house. In such a situation, it is also impossible to cook and eat food.
When we contact the municipal officials to complain, they often do not pick up the phone, and if they do, they told that this is not our department's business, it is beyond our control, and we cannot do anything about it. These people do not even try to find a solution to this issue by at least informing the relevant department.
Yogesh Mathwad, a resident of this place, said that the Municipal Corporation had sought permission to lay a rainwater channel from the side margin of this building. After we gave permission, the work of the rainwater channel was done.
But now it seems that a mistake was made by giving this permission. Due to the wrong work of this channel, the water of the sewage channel is entering the rainwater channel. When there is heavy rain, the rainwater flows back from the chamber. Since its pressure is high, the lid of the chamber is lifted and the contaminated water in it accumulates on the ground floor. The Municipal Corporation should take immediate measures in this regard.
Due to lack of coordination between various departments like roads, chambers, water, health, construction, the mistakes that are made during development work become costly and troublesome to rectify. This only affects the common citizens. Waste of public money can be prevented through proper coordination and transparent administration.
The website of the Municipal Corporation is not updated. Detailed information about all the works should be available to the public on it. This should include information such as the nature of the work, plan, cost, name of the contractor, etc. in a clear and understandable language.
The Municipal Corporation should keep the sewage and rainwater channels separate. The maps of the channels are not available with the Municipal Corporation employees.
