Pune: The Pune District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh on Thursday declared a prohibitory order under Section 144, according to which no outsider would be permitted to visit the Jaystambh, war memorial in Perne village of the district on January 1.

No outsider will be allowed to visit between noon from December 30 to 6 pm on January 2. Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure will be imposed to restrict the movement of people Koregaon Bhima area on January 1.

The order clearly states that a symbolic event, to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon, will be held at the Jaystambh on January 1. Only those who have received the passes by Pune Rural Police will be permitted to attend the programme. Also, nobody is allowed to set any food, toy or bookstall in the premises. Those who attend the programme here have to adhere to all guidelines declared by the state government due to the COVID-19 crisis. The order also stated that people will be asked to leave the area immediately once the programme is over.

On January 1, 2018 riots erupted in various parts of the district on the occasion of the 200th commemoration day of the Bhima-Koregaon battle. One person lost his life in the riots.

Meanwhile, ahead of New Year celebrations the order also limits the entry of outsiders to Wadhu Khurd, Tulapur, Bakori, Kesnand, Dongargaon, Kolwadi, Fulgaon, Dingrajwadi, Sanaswadi, Vadhu Budruk, Pimple Jagtap, Wajewadi, villages during this period. The night curfew will be in place till January 5 between 11 pm to 6 am here.
