Pune, 6th May 2026: Punekars will not face any water cuts till May 31, as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to continue regular water supply across the city. The decision was taken after reviewing the current water stock available in the four dams supplying water to Pune.
The decision was finalised during a meeting chaired by Mayor Manjusha Nagpure on Tuesday with officials from the irrigation department and civic administration.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur, and officials from the Khadakwasla irrigation division were present during the meeting.
Officials informed the civic body that the four dams supplying water to Pune currently have a combined storage of 9.58 TMC. According to PMC, the available water stock is higher than the levels recorded during the past three years, making immediate water cuts unnecessary.
The Water Resources Department had suggested reducing Pune’s monthly water usage by 15 percent due to concerns over a delayed monsoon and the possibility of below-normal rainfall this year. Weather experts have also warned that El Niño and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) may affect the monsoon season.
However, PMC decided against imposing restrictions for now, citing adequate water availability for the city.
“Although the irrigation department suggested water conservation measures, the current water stock in the four dams is sufficient for Pune’s needs. Since the available storage is higher than the last three years, there will be no water cut in the city till May 31. The situation will be reviewed again based on reservoir levels and updated weather forecasts,” said Mayor Manjusha Nagpure.
