Pune: An ode to warriors in Khaki; it's time citizens take lockdown rules seriously

Sakal Time

Across Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, the police personnel are working round-the-clock tirelessly and in full capacity. These frontline warriors are not only patrolling the city but are also deployed in containment zones, hotspots and even in some hospitals. It is important to understand the risk these cops take on-duty extends to their family members.

In the wake of COVID-19 cases rising in Pune, the administration had decided to impose a strict lockdown for ten days.

In the first phase of the lockdown (July 13-18) Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad kept a strict eye on the lockdown violators as a result around 1,942 people faced the action from the police for travelling without permission. A total of 474 were booked for not wearing masks, and 355 vehicles were seized.

In the industrial hub of Pimpri Chinchwad, the police took action against 958 people in the first phase for travelling unnecessarily. With 157 vehicles seized, around 352 people were booked for wandering without a valid reason.

While these men in uniform selflessly choose to put their lives at risk, it is now time to respect these uniformed force for the betterment of all.

They are not demanding anything; they are serving the society in the pandemic times that has gripped the world. The least we could do is make their job easier.
