Pune, 27th August 2026: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will operate its bus services at full capacity from August 28 to 30 to manage the expected increase in passenger traffic during the Raksha Bandhan period. Around 2,000 buses will be operated every day on regular as well as special routes.
With a three-day holiday period expected to increase passenger movement across Pune and its suburbs, PMPML has made additional arrangements to ensure smooth public transport services. The transport body expects higher demand at major bus stations and on routes connecting central Pune with suburban areas.
PMPML has cancelled leave for its employees during the period to ensure adequate staff availability. Officials will also be deployed at important bus stations to monitor operations, manage crowds and coordinate additional bus services when required.
On Raksha Bandhan, extra bus trips will be operated from high-demand locations such as Swargate, Pune Railway Station, Shivajinagar, Katraj, Hadapsar, Nigdi and Bhosari.
PMPML officials will monitor passenger numbers at these locations and increase the frequency of buses wherever necessary. The focus will be on providing adequate services during peak travel hours and reducing waiting time for passengers.
The three-day arrangement is aimed at ensuring that passengers travelling for Raksha Bandhan celebrations can rely on public transport despite the expected surge in demand. PMPML will use its available fleet and manpower to maintain regular services while adding special trips on crowded routes.
