Pune, 27 April 2026: A man accused of stealing a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus has been admitted to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment after being arrested by Shivajinagar Police.

Officials said the accused is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation, and his medical condition is a key focus of the investigation.

The incident took place in the Shivajinagar-Deccan area when the man entered a parked PMPML bus at Dengle Bridge. With the ignition key reportedly left inside, he started the vehicle and drove it along Jangli Maharaj Road towards Deccan, reaching Goodluck Chowk.

Police quickly responded after receiving alerts and intercepted the bus near Goodluck Chowk. The suspect was taken into custody without any injuries being reported, preventing a potentially serious situation.

Senior Police Inspector Girish Dighavkar said the accused has been admitted to Sassoon Hospital for further medical examination and treatment, and a detailed report from doctors is awaited before proceeding with legal action.

Police added that the accused is a native of Uttarakhand and his identity is still being confirmed. A case is being registered, and further investigation is underway.
