Pune, 7th April 2026: In a step towards modernizing policing, Pune Police have started using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to register First Information Reports (FIRs) on a pilot basis at Baner Police Station. The initiative is aimed at improving efficiency and reducing the time required to file complaints.
The system is designed to analyze the nature of a complaint and automatically suggest relevant legal provisions. It then generates a draft FIR, which helps simplify the otherwise complex process of documentation. Police officers review the draft and make necessary corrections before officially registering the case.
The AI-enabled platform also includes voice-to-text technology, allowing complainants to narrate their issues instead of writing them. The system converts the narration into text and prepares a draft FIR within minutes, ensuring quicker processing.
Once verified by officials, the FIR is registered immediately and a crime number is generated. Complainants are also promptly informed about the registration, reducing uncertainty and delays.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “The system is designed to save time for both complainants and police personnel by simplifying the FIR registration process and reducing delays.”
Officials believe that adopting artificial intelligence (AI) will streamline police work, cut down paperwork, and make the complaint registration process faster and more accessible for citizens.
