Pune, 5th June 2026: Police raided two illegal country liquor dens operating in Warje Malwadi and Keshavnagar (Mundhwa), seizing large quantities of liquor mixed with toxic chemicals. Investigators found that both operations were allegedly being run by women.
In Warje Malwadi, police conducted a late-night raid on an illegal liquor unit operating on open land behind the Kaleshwari Temple. During the operation, officers seized country liquor that was allegedly prepared using harmful substances, including Navsagar and other toxic chemicals.
Police arrested 38-year-old Preeti Vijay Navale and registered a case against seven other alleged associates identified as Sagar Bire, Shashi Kacharavat, Sudhir Kacharavat, Sangita Pardeshi, Zuber Shaikh, Vaishali alias Yadi Chavan, and Latabai Raste.
Preliminary investigations revealed that around 300 litres of chemically mixed liquor had recently been procured for sale. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by police constable Amit Shelar.
In a separate operation, police raided another illegal liquor den in the Gairanvasti area of Keshavnagar near a cattle shed. Officers seized country liquor being sold from the location and registered a case against Nikita Garunge, a resident of Keshavnagar.
The raids were carried out by Warje Malwadi and Mundhwa police stations. The action gains significance as illegal liquor production and sale continued despite recent incidents of deaths caused by poisonous liquor in Hadapsar and Phugewadi. Further investigation is underway.
