Pune, 11th August 2026: Police will increase foot patrols across the city to prevent crime and strengthen the sense of safety among citizens. As part of the new initiative, each police station will identify at least 10 to 12 locations for regular foot patrols.
Instructions to implement the initiative from Tuesday have been issued to senior police inspectors of all police stations in the city.
Police presence will be increased in areas where accused persons live, as well as at major markets, schools and colleges, malls, important junctions and places where crimes have been reported in the past.
Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Darade said foot patrols would help prevent crime and make citizens feel safer by ensuring a visible police presence in public places.
Each police station will decide the locations to be covered by its patrol teams. A patrol team will consist of either two male police personnel or one male and one female police personnel.
The teams will patrol between 5 pm and 9 pm, with officers instructed to remain in uniform and carry lathis during the rounds.
The initiative will give special attention to crowded public areas where people gather during the evening. Police will monitor markets, educational institutions, shopping malls, major junctions and other sensitive locations to deter criminal activity and respond quickly to incidents.
The move is aimed at making police presence more visible across Pune and strengthening public confidence in the city's law-and-order system.
