Pune imposes time-based heavy vehicle ban on Katraj-Kiwale bypass from October 15 to ease Hinjewadi traffic.
Ban applies 8–11 AM towards Kiwale and 5–9 PM towards Katraj; essential service vehicles exempted.
Trucks from neighboring districts restricted at specific toll points; violations will face legal action.
Pune, 9th October 2025: Authorities in Pune have declared a temporary ban on heavy vehicles on the Katraj-Kiwale bypass of the Pune-Bengaluru highway to ease the increasing traffic congestion in Hinjewadi and nearby IT and industrial areas. This restriction will take effect from October 15 and will remain in place until further notice.
According to the directive, heavy and slow-moving vehicles will not be allowed to use the Katraj-Kiwale lane from 8 AM to 11 AM towards Kiwale and from 5 PM to 9 PM towards Katraj.
This restriction applies to multi-axle trucks, trailers, containers, dumpers, tractors, road rollers, JCBs, and other similar vehicles. Vehicles providing essential services, including fuel, milk, agricultural produce, and emergency services, will be exempted from the ban.
Hinjewadi IT Park, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Narhe, and Kiwale have seen a sharp increase in vehicle numbers due to rapid industrialization and urbanization. The Katraj-Kiwale bypass, being a major route between Mumbai and Bengaluru, also carries heavy vehicles that do not enter Pune city.
This has led to daily traffic jams and accidents. In a joint meeting, Pune police and district administration decided to implement the restrictions strictly. Violators will face legal action, officials warned.
Additionally, trucks coming from Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur will not be allowed beyond the Shindewadi toll, while vehicles from Navi Mumbai, Raigad, and Thane will be restricted beyond the Urse toll and Vadgaon Phata.
