Pune, 8th June 2026: As the monsoon season approaches, the Pune Railway Division has completed pre-monsoon preparations to ensure safe and uninterrupted train operations. The measures include track maintenance, drainage improvements, and the removal of potential hazards across the railway network.
To reduce the risk of waterlogging during heavy rainfall, the division has cleared waterways beneath 879 bridges and cleaned 148 kilometers of drainage channels. These efforts are aimed at ensuring smooth water flow and preventing disruptions to rail traffic.
The railway administration has also prepared 4.85 kilometers of catchwater drains to divert rainwater flowing from nearby hills away from railway tracks. This is expected to help protect rail infrastructure in vulnerable areas during intense rainfall.
Special attention has been given to landslide-prone ghat sections. After detailed inspections, authorities removed 182 dangerous boulders that could pose a threat during the monsoon.
Dewatering pumps have been deployed in vulnerable subway locations to prevent flooding, while branches from 1,552 trees have been trimmed to improve visibility along railway routes.
To strengthen operational reliability, the division has installed rubber pads to protect signalling systems and track circuits from rain-related faults. Leak-proofing work at stations, yards, and relay rooms has also been completed.
In addition, track patrolmen and watchmen have been equipped with GPS tracking devices, allowing control rooms to monitor their movements in real time during adverse weather conditions.
Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Kumar Verma said, “Inspections of tracks, bridges, and signalling systems across the Pune Division have been completed. We have given special attention to landslide-prone and waterlogging-prone locations, and GPS-equipped monitoring teams are ready for round-the-clock surveillance. These measures will help ensure uninterrupted rail services throughout the monsoon season.”
