Pune and its suburbs were hit by another intense spell of rain and gusty winds on Thursday afternoon, bringing relief from the scorching heat but also triggering disruptions across several areas. In the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas, nearly 25 mm of rainfall was recorded within just 25 minutes, with wind speeds ranging between 28 and 35 km/h. The intense spell led to waterlogging in parts of Hinjewadi and western Pune, while gale-force winds uprooted trees and damaged vehicles.
Pune was battered by unseasonal heavy rainfall on Thursday, causing significant disruption across the city. In just 1.5 hours, waterlogging was reported in several low-lying areas, including near the Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir.
Jangli Maharaj Road turned into a river-like stretch due to flooding, while rainwater entered homes, particularly in Balajinagar, causing substantial damage to property. The sudden downpour has left residents struggling with waterlogged streets and disrupted daily life. Sudden downpours caught residents off guard and led to brief panic on the streets.
According to weather radar observations, fresh thunderstorms were forming over western and northwestern parts of Pune, including Baner, Aundh, Sus, Hinjewadi, Balewadi, Bavdhan, Chandani Chowk, Wakad, and Dehu Road, raising the possibility of further heavy spells.
The city has been witnessing a pattern of hot mornings followed by afternoon showers since Monday, with intermittent rain and hail hinting at early monsoon-like conditions. On Wednesday, temperatures remained high until noon before strong winds and rain began around 3 pm.
Areas including Sinhagad Road, Dhankawadi, Katraj, Hadapsar, Lohegaon, and Kharadi reported heavy rainfall, while hailstorms were witnessed in Katraj-Satara Road, Kothrud, and Karve Nagar. Light showers were recorded in Deccan and Shivajinagar. Many commuters were seen taking shelter along roadsides as the weather turned abruptly.
