Pune: Pune reported the third highest rainfall in month of October in 10 years on Wednesday as heavy downpour along with thunderstorm created havoc in the district.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shivajinagar received 112.1mm in 24 hours beginning Wednesday morning (8:30 am) while Lohegaon reported 125.7mm rain and Pashan recording 120.2mm rainfall. In 2010, Pune had reported 181.1mm of rain within 24 hours. Waterlogging, traffic disruptions and instances of water entering many houses especially those of low-lying areas leading destruction to the property were reported. Pune city reported 76mm rainfall in three hours.
Besides suburb, rural areas of the district also received heavy downpour. Pune-Hyderabad national highway was closed for vehicular movement after backwater from the Ujani dam flooded parts of the road. After heavy rains lashed Pune on Wednesday, Thursday did not witness heavy showers barring recurrent spells in some parts.

Apart from Pune, districts such as Solapur and Sangli also witnessed rain causing 27 fatalities in various rain-related incidents. Heavy rain caused by a deep depression battered various districts of the state from Wednesday, leading to flooding. Over 20,000 people had to be evacuated to safer places in these three districts amid flooding.
