Pune: Regional Transport Office (RTO) will be fully functional by Friday (June 19) and start issuing appointments for learning and permanent licenses for interested citizens; but don't forget to wear your mask and gloves or else you won’t be allowed to enter the RTO premises.

RTO was closed from March 25 after the nationwide lockdown was announced to curb the spread of corona-virus. As a result, issuing of learning or permanent licenses was also suspended along with any other renewal or registration of vehicles, documents process was also stopped. After relaxations from lockdown were given in phased manner, RTO started functioning partially from May 18. Only registrations of new vehicles were started then. Now, it is being extended and RTO would function fully from June 19. Pimpri-Chinchwad and Baramati RTO office will also start functioning fully soon.

Regional Transport Officer Ajit Shinde has issued the new orders. Shinde said, "RTO has asked its 20 per cent staff to resume office from Friday (June 19) onwards. We have scheduled meetings on Wednesday and Thursday for planning the work load. We will also discuss how to maintain social distancing and what measures should be taken for its effective implementation."

"Learning license, permanent license, vehicle registration, vehicle transfer and fitness certificate, tax payments, auctioning of special numbers, international driving permit etc work will be started from Friday," Shinde added.

"During the learning license issuing process, six feet distance will be maintained between two candidates. Also computers and other equipments will be sanitised frequently at appropriate intervals. We will take additional precautions to avoid crowding at the RTO premises and effective implementation of the appointment schedules," Shinde said.

Shinde also emphasised on the precautionary measures to be taken inside RTO premises. He said, "All precautions will be taken right from the entrance of RTO. We will appoint a security guard at the gate itself. Wearing of masks and gloves will be made mandatory and only those citizens who follow it will be given entry inside."
