Pune’s Shivajinagar recorded a scorching 41.4°C on Sunday, marking the highest maximum temperature observed in the area during May since at least 2016, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The temperature was also 3.4°C above normal, reflecting the intense pre-monsoon heat currently affecting the city.
Lohegaon recorded an even higher temperature of 42.7°C, making it one of the hottest locations in Pune on Sunday. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Shivajinagar stood at 24.8°C, around 2.5°C above normal.
The extreme heat was not limited to these two areas. Koregaon Park and Wadgaon Sheri both recorded 40.9°C, while Dudulgaon registered 40.7°C and Talegaon recorded 40.6°C, indicating widespread hot weather conditions across Pune.
Meteorologists said the rise in temperatures is part of the typical pre-monsoon weather pattern seen across Maharashtra. Dry weather and clear skies during the day have contributed to the sharp increase in daytime temperatures, making conditions uncomfortable across the city.
Despite the soaring temperatures, the IMD has forecast light rainfall along with gusty winds over the next 24 hours, offering the possibility of temporary relief.
The weather department has also predicted mainly clear skies during mornings and partly cloudy conditions in the afternoon and evening till May 16.
