Pune, 20th June 2026: A 27-year-old software engineer allegedly died by suicide after enduring harassment from her husband, mother-in-law, and other relatives over not having a child. Following a complaint filed by her family, Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the accused.
The deceased, identified as Deepti Pradeep Ekshinge, lived in the Manikbaug area on Sinhagad Road. Her brother, Dr Kiran Tushar Dudhbale, a resident of Chamorshi in Gadchiroli district, lodged a complaint at Sinhagad Road Police Station.
According to the complaint, Deepti and her husband Pradeep Ekshinge, both software engineers, met while working at an IT company. Their friendship developed into a relationship, and the couple entered into a love marriage in Pune on November 17, 2024.
After the marriage, Deepti was allegedly subjected to repeated taunts and mental harassment by her husband, mother-in-law, and relatives because the couple did not have a child. Her family claimed the continuous harassment caused severe mental distress.
Police said Deepti allegedly jumped from the third floor of her residential building on June 17 and died. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against her husband, mother-in-law, and other relatives. Further investigation is being conducted by Assistant Police Inspector Rajkumar Adagale.
