Pune, 6th May 2026: After experiencing a slight drop in temperature during the first week of May, Pune is once again preparing for intense summer heat.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures across the city are expected to rise sharply over the coming days, with several areas likely to record temperatures above 40 degree Celsius between May 7 and May 12.
On May 5, Shivajinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 37.2 degree Celsius, which was slightly below the seasonal average. However, Lohegaon, considered one of the hottest areas in Pune, continued to experience extreme heat and recorded 40.1 degree Celsius on the same day.
Meteorologists have now predicted that the temporary relief from heat will soon end. The maximum temperature in Shivajinagar is expected to cross the 40 degree Celsius mark again later this week as dry weather conditions continue across the region.
Along with daytime heat, night temperatures are also expected to increase. The minimum temperature, which had dropped to around 22 degree Celsius, is likely to rise again and touch nearly 26 degree Celsius over the next few days.
The rising temperatures are expected to increase discomfort levels, especially during afternoon hours. Citizens have been advised to avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak daytime periods and stay hydrated as Pune heads into another spell of severe summer heat.
