Pune, 17 July 2025: In a heartening incident, a tour operator from Kondhwa in Pune, who was accompanying a group of 12 pilgrims on the Amarnath Yatra, experienced an unexpected moment of humanity in Jammu after misplacing a bag containing ₹2.25 lakh in cash. Thanks to the alertness and integrity of the Jammu Government Railway Police (GRP), the bag was not only recovered but safely returned, reinforcing public trust in law enforcement.
Due to potential network or online transaction issues during travel, the tour operator had carried the cash for emergencies such as health needs or sudden expenses. On the evening of July 15, while at the Jammu railway station, the bag went missing amidst the chaos.
During a routine inspection, GRP officers found an unclaimed bag. Upon checking its contents and identifying documents, they discovered the substantial cash and successfully traced the rightful owner. The bag was returned after verification, showcasing a commendable example of prompt police action and humane service.
Expressing gratitude, the tour operator shared that losing the bag had caused great anxiety, but the swift recovery left a lasting impression. He also acknowledged the overwhelming cooperation and support received from both local citizens and the police during the trip. He encouraged fellow travellers from Maharashtra to visit Jammu without fear, highlighting the positive experience as a boost for the region’s tourism sector.
