Pune Traffic Police Counsel Drunk Drivers Amid Rising Drunk Driving Cases

Pune Traffic Police booked 229 offenders; special weekend drives and counseling sessions aim to curb road accidents and improve awareness

Pune, 14 April 2026: In an effort to curb the rising cases of drunk driving, Pune Traffic Police have intensified their special enforcement drives conducted every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday across the city.

As part of this initiative, action has been taken against 229 drivers found driving under the influence of alcohol.

The enforcement included naka bandis at key locations. On April 10, checks at five points in Koregaon Park led to action against 31 drivers. Similarly, on April 12, action was taken against 10 drivers during checks at four locations in the Airport area. Overall, such drives were carried out across all city divisions.

Following the crackdown, all offenders were called for a counseling session at the Yerwada Traffic Division office on Monday. During the session, officials explained the dangers of drunk driving, including the risk of accidents, loss of life, and legal consequences.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav said, “Driving under the influence not only endangers your own life but also puts others at serious risk. We urge citizens to strictly follow traffic rules and avoid driving after consuming alcohol.”
