Pune: The work of the much-talked-about and anticipated, two-tier flyover at Chandni Chowk in the city has finally reached its final stage. The process to acquire the land over the space is almost completed. The proposal in this regard will be submitted to the Divisional Commissioner for final approval.
A two-tier flyover will be constructed at Chandni Chowk to ease traffic congestion in the area including Chandni Chowk, Kothrud, Warje and Baner. These bridges are designed to smoothen the traffic for the commuters travelling towards Mumbai, Satara, Mulshi and Kothrud via Chandni Chowk. The groundbreaking ceremony of this bridge was held in August 2017 at the hands of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Some bungalows were to be acquired along with the land acquisition of 13.92 hectares of the for this bridge. The work of the flyover was halted for three years amid lack of land acquisition. The then Municipal Commissioner and the present Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao had followed up with the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. At that time, the state government had announced financial assistance to the corporation.
Meanwhile, Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh held a review meeting on land acquisition and gave instructions to resolve the issue. Dr Rajesh Deshmukh said, “An award has been announced for land acquisition at Chandni Chowk. The cost for acquisition is approximately Rs 100 crore. A proposal for the same will be submitted to the Divisional Commissioner for the final approval.”
THE STRUCTURE
· Separate two-lane road for Mumbai Highway.
· A subway will be created for commuters of Pashan-Bavdhan travelling towards Kothrud.
· No traffic signals will be installed.
