According to police, Deshmukh had been struggling with financial difficulties and had accumulated debt while preparing for the examinations. His room rent had remained unpaid for several months, while he had also borrowed money from acquaintances to meet his food and other daily expenses.

Police said his outstanding debt had reached around Rs 2.5 lakh. He had reportedly told some friends that he was considering giving up his examination preparation and returning to his village because of his financial situation.

A note was found at the scene. Police said it contained references to his financial difficulties and the money he had borrowed. His body was sent to Sassoon General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

In a separate incident, 21-year-old MBBS student Aadimaya Shekhar Reddy died by suicide at a residential society in Katraj on Tuesday.

Reddy, originally from Hyderabad, was pursuing her MBBS studies at a medical college in Pune and was staying in Katraj with her brother.

Police said she had reportedly been under stress related to her examinations. Her brother told police during preliminary inquiries that academic pressure may have led to the incident.

A police team led by Sub-Inspector Ravi Jadhav reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. Police have registered an accidental death case and are investigating further.
