Pune, 14th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will resume its alternate-day water supply schedule across the city from Wednesday (July 15) after temporarily restoring regular supply during the Ashadhi Wari celebrations. Civic officials said the restrictions will remain in place until the Khadakwasla dam project reaches full capacity.
PMC had suspended the alternate-day water supply between July 9 and July 12 to ensure uninterrupted water availability during the stay of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj palkhis in Pune.
With the Wari concluded, the civic body has decided to reinstate the water rationing schedule from Wednesday.
Heavy rainfall in the catchment areas over the past week has significantly improved water levels in the Khadakwasla dam project. The combined storage has increased from around 12% last week to nearly 58%.
Despite this improvement, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said the available water is still not sufficient to withdraw the restrictions.
He said that although rainfall has increased reservoir levels, the Khadakwasla dam project has not yet reached full capacity. Considering the India Meteorological Department's forecast of below-normal rainfall this season, the civic body has decided to continue alternate-day water supply until the reservoirs are completely filled.
The four reservoirs supplying water to Pune currently hold a combined 57.93% of their live storage capacity, compared with 72.07% during the same period last year.
Khadakwasla: 95.51% (1.89 TMC)
Panshet: 60.52% (6.44 TMC)
Varasgaon: 55.41% (7.10 TMC)
Temghar: 39.18% (1.45 TMC)
Last year, the combined storage stood at 72.07% (21.01 TMC) during the same period.
PMC officials said the alternate-day water supply will continue until the Khadakwasla dam system reaches 100% capacity. The administration will review the situation and consider restoring normal daily water supply once the reservoirs are adequately replenished.
