Pune, 17th October 2026: Punekars faced major inconvenience on Friday morning, October 16, as water supply remained inadequate or arrived at low pressure following Thursday's scheduled water cut.
The disruption affected city's central areas, Kharadi, Hadapsar, Aundh, Bopodi, Bibwewadi and Kondhwa. Several residents received water late, while others reported insufficient pressure.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced a weekly water cut every Thursday from October 15, following state government directions to conserve water.
The decision comes amid concerns over lower rainfall during the monsoon and reduced storage in the Khadakwasla dam system, which reportedly has around 3.5 TMC less water than at the same time last year. Authorities have warned of possible water scarcity in the coming months.
Residents had expected water supply to resume on time on Friday after the Thursday shutdown. However, complaints about delayed and low-pressure supply were reported from several areas. Following complaints, the PMC's water supply department took steps to address the disruption, and supply returned to normal by afternoon.
Nandkishore Jagtap, head of PMC's water supply department, said most complaints came from areas at the tail end of the water distribution network, where water pressure was low. He said the supply in these areas had subsequently been restored. The civic body has implemented the weekly water cut as a measure to conserve the available water stock.
