Pune, 9th July 2026: After an uninterrupted eight-day spell of rain, city experienced a welcome break from Wednesday night as rainfall activity reduced sharply across the city and nearby ghat areas.
In line with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, residents witnessed partly cloudy skies along with periods of sunshine after several days of continuous showers on Thursday morning.
The Shivajinagar weather station recorded 15.1 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on July 9, indicating a significant decline in rainfall intensity compared to the previous week.
Despite the slowdown in rain, this month's rainfall has already entered the record books. According to IMD data, Pune's Shivajinagar station has received 409 mm of rainfall so far in July, making it the wettest July recorded since at least 2014.
The period between July 1 and July 8 has also become the wettest opening eight days of July in Pune's recorded history, surpassing the previous record set in 2007. The continuous spell of rain over the past week pushed the city's rainfall totals to historic levels.
The IMD has predicted that Pune is likely to receive only light rainfall for the remainder of the week. The city is expected to witness generally cloudy to overcast skies with occasional sunshine breaking through the clouds.
The minimum temperature recorded in Pune on Thursday was 22.7 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 28°C and 29°C.
With rainfall activity expected to stay weak, residents are likely to enjoy more comfortable weather over the next few days, although isolated light showers may continue.
