Pune, May 14: On Thursday, Another inmate has escaped from the open prison facility in Yerawada, Pune. The prisoner, serving a life sentence in a murder case, fled from custody, marking the second such escape from the prison within a week. Prison authorities reportedly realised the inmate was missing only hours after the incident, as he had been engaged in agricultural work within the open prison premises following his transfer due to good conduct.
The escaped convict has been identified as Janardan Shankar Adsule, a resident of Kashewadi in Bhawani Peth. A complaint in the matter was filed at Yerawada Police Station by prison official Chandrakant Sayaji Khandwe (58) on behalf of the Yerawada prison administration. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Adsule.
According to police, Adsule was convicted in a murder case registered at Khadak Police Station and was serving a life sentence. Due to his good conduct in prison, he had been shifted to the open prison facility, where he was engaged in agricultural work.
The incident reportedly took place between 2 pm and 6 pm on May 12, when Adsule escaped from lawful custody. Prison authorities realised late in the night that he was missing from the open prison premises, following which a police complaint was lodged.
Earlier, on May 8, another life convict, Santosh Laxman Bhingare, a resident of Pachwad in Satara district’s Wai taluka, had escaped from Yerawada prison. He is still absconding. Before police could trace him, another life convict has now escaped from the same prison facility.
