To ease the pressure on Pune Railway Station, Hadapsar and Khadki terminals are being developed with upgraded passenger amenities and the possibility of launching new trains by the end of July.

Pune, 8th July 2025: In an effort to reduce the heavy operational burden on Pune Railway Station, Indian Railways is fast-tracking development work at Hadapsar and Khadki terminals. The work to connect their yards and tracks is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the end of July. These upgrades are part of a long-term strategy to decentralize train operations from Pune Junction.

The upcoming terminals will not only handle part of the rail traffic but also offer enhanced passenger facilities. Construction of foot overbridges, waiting rooms, and restrooms is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed in the next two months. These additions aim to provide passengers with more convenience and comfort at both stations.

While the railway administration has not yet received official approval for new trains, proposals are in place to launch services from the new terminals. Khadki is likely to serve trains heading toward Mumbai and Gujarat, whereas Hadapsar could become the starting point for trains bound for Solapur and South India. This development is expected to improve regional connectivity and reduce travel time for many commuters.

Currently, Pune station manages around 170 to 180 trains daily, including 83 originating from the station itself. Despite the upcoming additions, none of the existing services will have their terminal shifted, ensuring no disruption to current travel routines. Instead of altering current routes and causing passenger inconvenience, the railway’s focus remains on starting entirely new services from Hadapsar and Khadki once the terminals are fully operational.

Railway officials have confirmed that shifting existing terminals could lead to confusion and dissatisfaction among travelers. Hence, the administration is committed to introducing fresh services from the new locations while retaining Pune Junction's importance. The expansion is aimed at meeting rising passenger demand while maintaining operational efficiency.
