Pune, 21st October 2026: The Pune district administration has decided to compulsorily acquire the remaining 40 hectares of land required for the Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje International Airport at Purandar after some farmers in Pargaon refused to surrender their land voluntarily.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the acquisition process would begin in the coming days.
The airport project requires 1,216 hectares, or around 3,000 acres, across seven villages in Purandar taluka, including Kumbharvalan, Vanpuri, Ekhatpur, Pargaon, Munjawadi and Khanawadi.
According to the administration, around 96% of farmers in the affected villages have agreed to the acquisition.
However, the remaining 4%, mainly from Pargaon, have withheld their consent letters despite two extensions granted by the authorities.
The administration has clarified that landowners whose plots are acquired compulsorily will not receive the additional benefits offered to farmers who agree to surrender their land voluntarily.
The state government has announced compensation of ₹1.61 crore per acre, with separate payments for trees, wells and existing structures. Funds have been released to the district administration, and approximately ₹4,000 crore has already been credited to farmers’ bank accounts.
Despite the high level of consent, the administration has secured possession of only around 76% of the total land required for the airport.
Farmers opposing the project had approached the Bombay High Court challenging the acquisition. The district administration said the court dismissed their petition, clearing the way for compulsory acquisition of the remaining land.
With voluntary negotiations failing to secure the final 40 hectares, the administration is now preparing to proceed under the compulsory acquisition process.
